In Caryl Churchill’s Far Away, we are shown a world even more messed up than 1984 or The Handmaid’s Tale. Strange and distorted as it is, it’s scarily familiar, and seems not so Far Away at all. Churchill’s way with language is famously astonishing and challenges us to question just about everything. This play expresses anguish at the increasing—and increasingly accepted—levels of inhumanity in a world seemingly perpetually involved in conflict.
Presented “in-the-round”, Far Away runs about an hour, plus an extravagant hat exhibit (once you know, you know), and it’s a play you’ll want to talk about, so please stay with us for free tea/coffee and talkback afterwards. After all, it’s the audience that makes the play. Not suitable for young children.
