One-act play auditions

As we approach our 20th anniversary, Gabriola Players is delighted to announce we will be kicking off our celebrations with an ALL-GABRIOLA One-Act Play Festival at the end of May.

AUDITIONS for the plays will be held on Wednesday, March 13 from 7pm to 9pm at the Gabriola Arts and Heritage Centre.

There are seven roles to be cast in three plays by local writers.

In The Care Aide Visit by Dave Innell, self-centred divorcee Elise is annoyed to discover her cheerful young care aide has been replaced by Grace, a woman her own age, who is made of very stern stuff indeed. A battle of wills ensues, but who will end up with the upper hand?

In The Waiting Room by Anne M. Holmes, two men meet in a waiting room at Vancouver General Hospital. Ernie (a Canadian man in his sixties) and Frank (a British man in his sixties) are both there awaiting news about their wives. While they make conversation to pass the time, they are unaware of being observed by Annie (a British woman in her sixties). As time passes, these strangers discover they have more in common than they thought.

Shades of Green by Carol Fergusson introduces us to Ivy and George. Ivy is a middle-aged artist with a flailing career and a penchant for jumping to conclusions. George, an accountant, is the epitome of a loving, supportive husband whose patience is tested by his wife’s wild accusations.

Rehearsals will begin in mid-March with four performances at the Rollo Centre at the end of May.

If you would like to read one or more of the scripts before the auditions, send a request to gabriolaplayers@gmail.com.

Please be aware that, for the safety of all, the wearing of masks is required.
