Auditions for ART

Gabriola Players will be holding auditions in early December for our March 2024 production of

GABRIOLA ARTS & HERITAGE BUILDING

476 South Road

Wednesday, December 6 from 7pm to 8:30pm

There are three roles to be cast: Marc, Serge and Yvan – all middle-aged males.

SYNOPSIS: Art is a play set in Paris which revolves around the relationships between three friends – Marc, Serge and Yvan. It begins with Serge proudly displaying his latest, very expensive purchase – a work by an obscure artist. The large canvas is completely white with just a few lines of white. His friend Marc is appalled by the purchase and tells Serge so in no uncertain terms. But is it the painting he dislikes or is it really Serge’s independent thought? Their friend Yvan tries to play the peacemaker. While he does laugh about the painting with Marc, he also assures Serge that he likes the white canvas. Yvan’s attempts at mediation fail with both Marc and Serge redirecting their anger at him. As the focus moves from the theoretical to the personal, the three friends are forced to ask questions not only about the nature of art, but about the nature of friendship. As the attacks escalate, Serge, Marc, and Yvan risk ruining their friendship forever.

Rehearsals will begin in January and will take place three times a week – Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7pm to 9pm and Sunday afternoons from 2pm to 4pm.

Performance dates are March 14, 15 and 16 at 7pm and March 17 at 2pm.

Please be aware that, for the safety of all, the wearing of masks is required.
