Directing workshop with Jenn Feenan

You’ve been in some plays and now you think you’d like to have a go at directing, but you’re not sure where to start? We have the workshop for you!

Jenn Feenan, a founding member of Gabriola Players, who has decades of experience both on stage and in the director’s chair, is offering a two-day “directing essentials” workshop on Friday, September 29 and Saturday, September 30 at the Arts and Heritage Centre.

It all starts with the play – breaking down scenes to get to their core. What is going on? What do the characters want and what are they doing to get it?

According to Jenn, “There is no right or wrong. There’s only good and better.”

Once registered and before the workshop begins, Jenn will send each participant an individual two-character scenes with which they will be expected to familiarise themselves

On the first morning, Jenn will guide participants through the process of breaking down scenes.

In the afternoon, three participants will be asked to cast two others in their scene. The directors and actors will break into small groups to analyse the scene, before performing it.

This will be repeated on day two with the remaining six scenes. Each participant will have a turn at both directing and, as actors, being directed.

By the end of day two, you will know exactly where to start and how to move confidently into the director’s chair.

To register send an email to gabriolaplayers@gmail.com.

Maximum number of participants: 9

Fee: $75 ($55 for members of Gabriola Players)
