This Gabriola Players Readers Theatre production introduces us to five Canadian women adapting to their changing realities as World War II grinds from its earliest days through signing of the peace treaty in Europe.

The women might have had little to do with one another in the normal courses of their lives, but the war brings them into shared efforts to do what they can to support the Canadian troops.

We watch them as they package socks and sewing kits and fruit to give to soldiers passing through on troop trains, roll bandages, and practice evacuation of their homes in the face of imagined enemy attacks.

We see and hear the conflicts among their various lifestyles and personal values. We watch and listen to their interactions with a woman who came to Calgary from Germany with her parents when she was nine years old.

And, as the war winds down and the prospect of resuming their former lives moves closer, we recognize that the work they have shared, the recreations they have pursued, the friendships they have made and the losses they have suffered have changed their lives, perhaps more than they yet realize.

Performances at the Rollo Centre on Friday, October 4th at 7pm and Saturday, October 5th at 2 pm and 7 pm. Tickets are $10. Available in advance at Artworks or on-line by clicking here
