A Message from the President

The past few months have been difficult for everyone. Although we are very fortunate to live on an island where, as yet, the virus has not struck, it has still been a great disappointment that we, the members of Gabriola Players, have not been able to stage our usual entertainments for our friends and neighbours.

The coronavirus forced the cancellation of our spring One-Act Play Festival right in the middle of the run. The Christmas Pantomime, which has become a seasonal tradition on Gabriola, had to be cancelled as well. When rising case-counts forced the shut-down of our alternative Christmas show, we were able to arrange a video recording of our “live” performance of The Nativity Auditions. We have also made various recordings of earlier shows available on YouTube.

Gabriola Players has been able to carry on, to survive financially and artistically, through the great creativity, generosity, and devotion of our members, and the loyalty of our sponsors and audiences. We have also been the grateful recipients of a grant-in-aid from the Gabriola Recreation Society. We continue to meet, to think, and to plan, and when we are once again able to stage live theatre, we will be ready.

In the meanwhile, I want to thank everyone again for sticking with us, and to wish you all a Happy Holiday, in whatever way you celebrate. Stay safe. Stay warm. We will see you 2021.
