Are you ready to laugh out loud? One-Act Play festival opens tomorrow!

The days are getting longer, there’s a rumour the temperatures will soon be getting warmer. After a long, cold winter it’s time for some laugh out loud fun. And Gabriola Players has just what you need.

Our ever popular one-act play festival is back this weekend at the Rollo.

Starting tomorrow there will be four performances of British playwright Jackie Lines’ delightful little gem, Whisking Eggs, directed by Jean Wyenberg.

Not to be missed for those who’ve ever wondered what you’d get if you mixed an over-sexed pensioner (Miranda Holmes), a repressed librarian (Adrienne Muscat), a runaway vicar’s wife (Wendy Phillips) and a dominatrix (Tamara Gorski). And let’s be honest: who amongst us has never wondered exactly that?

On Friday and Saturday we will have some special guests – members of Galiano Players, here to perform Norm Foster’s delightful comedy My Narrator. Director Sonia Baker (a former and long-time member of Gabriola Players) is excited at the prospect of directing again on Gabriola.

Last year, at Sonia’s request, Gabriola Players took Lesley Hazeldine’s play, Living in Paradise, to Galiano and Sonia is hoping these exchanges will become an annual event, perhaps even leading to an annual Gulf Islands one-act play festival involving multiple islands.

Sadly, our Galiano guests can only be with us on Friday and Saturday, so the Sunday matinee of the festival will feature Whisking Eggs and an encore performance of Living in Paradise, directed by Jenn Feenan.

The 2019 One-Act Play festival will be performed at the Rollo Centre on Friday, March 15 at 7pm, Saturday, March 16 at 2pm and7pm, and Sunday, March 17 at 2pm. Tickets are $15 and are available at North Road Sports or online at gabriolaplayers.ca.
