Gabriola Players is looking at a number of wonderful plays for possible performance this autumn. Each presents its own casting challenges. And we don’t know who’s out there ready to take on these meaty roles.
So we’ve decided to hold open auditions for all three plays at the Rollo Centre on Tuesday August 15 from 7pm to 9pm. (Please note: If a second round of auditions is needed, it will be held at the same time at the Rollo Centre on Thursday, August 17.)
Rehearsals for the play selected will begin on September 5 and be held three times a week (Tuesday and Thursday evenings and Sunday afternoons) leading to performances at the Theatre Centre on November 2-5.
These are the plays we are considering.
Marion Bridge by Daniel MacIvor is a humorous and touching story set in the kitchen of a family home in Nova Scotia. Three sisters (two middle-aged, one younger) come “home” to care for their dying mother. Nothing, of course, has turned out exactly the way anyone imagined it would. Cast: Three female roles.
Sleuth by Anthony Shaffer is the ultimate cat and mouse game played out in a cosy country house owned by celebrated mystery writer, Andrew Wyke. Invited guest: Milo Tindle, a young rival who has declared his intention to run off with Wyke’s wife. Cast: Two male roles.
In Norm Foster’s Halfway There, a new doctor arrives in the small town of Stewiacke, Nova Scotia, looking for a fresh start. In the village coffee shop, he soon meets four local women, each with their own interesting life stories. A feelgood theatre experience about the power of true friendship filled with incomparable Maritime wit and wisdom. Cast: four women (three 50+ one 30+) and one man (early 40s+).
Are you ready for one of these challenging roles?
We can’t wait to see you!
Again, if a second round of auditions is required, it will be held at the same time at the Rollo Centre on Thursday, August 17.
