Open Auditions next week!

Two years after the pandemic shut everything down halfway through our one-act play festival, Gabriola Players is raring to go live in front of audiences again. And we want to meet you!

Whether you haven’t been involved in a play since school or have never been involved, but think it might be fun (it is!) you are invited to Open Auditions being held on Sunday, April 10 from 2pm to 4pm at the Rollo Centre.

The auditions will be for the group’s 2022 production: One-Act Play Festival in early June, a staged reading of A Midsummer Night’s Dream in late July, and the pantomime in December.

If the thought of tackling Shakespeare terrifies you, it shouldn’t. When we first performed this play in 2015, none of the actors had ever done the Bard before. Here’s what one first-time actor said afterwards: “As a newcomer to both the island and to acting, I could not believe my amazing luck to have stumbled into this fantastic group. It took me a while to grow into the role of Puck, but it was a magical and transforming experience for me. Everyone was so helpful and encouraging! They inspired me with confidence and challenged me beyond what I thought I could do. I couldn’t be more delighted with this as my first retirement project on Gabriola Island.”

Never want to be in the spotlight, but think you’d like to be involved? Fancy turning your hand at costumes, make-up, set painting, props, lighting, sound or backstage crew? The Players want to meet you!

Please note that everyone will be required to show proof of vaccination and will be expected to wear a mask when not performing.

The shows will go on. Why not make this the year you are a part of them?
